REMOVE discontinue button from the medication administration screen
Staff should not have the ability to DISCONTINUE a medication from the administration screen. Meds should only be discontinued from the order chronology. This is a huge safety issue that allows for staff to accidentally discontinue the entire order.
Discontinuing an active medication requires a provider order (an additional screen) and would have no effect on Medication Reconciliation and refill requests. Are you talking about discontinuing or removing a Home Medication? And are you completing a Discharge Medication Reconciliation?
So my issue is that a nurse in the ED DC the medication then the patient follows up in the Clinic or calls in for a refill and the medication has been DC. The clinic provider has to go back into the system and reenter the full prescription again instead of clicking renew.
