We have had several instances lately where despite multiple attempts to discharge patients, they are not being discharged and remain active patients on the tracking board and in census. I tried discharging the patients from the tracking board as well as from registration census screens without luck.
I am being told on ticket 10136067 that the problem we are having discharging patients is not a programming issue. Quoting from the ticket, " I wouldn't classify this as an error, but more of a process issue. Patients should be discharged from the same area of the system they were admitted. Admitted and Discharged from the Census side or from the Charts side. Since those patients were admitted from Chart Location Maintenance they should be discharged from Location Maintenance. The work around would be if you can't discharge from onearea to try the other area because that's probably where they were admitted."
I was told that I needed to go to Location Maintenance and discharge the patient. My response to this is that we should be able to discharge the patients from whereever discharge is programmed. No one discharging the patient would have any idea of the process used to admit the patient. We shouldn't have to try 3 different discharge processes to be able to discharge a patient.
These are the situations that are incredibly frustrating to deal with. This is an obvious programming failure and should be acknowledged and corrected. However, I am here to "dream" about it being corrected.
You should be able to discharge the patient from either place.
