When entering the patient's home meds, please remove the default routes for all eye, ear and nasal meds which currently default to OPHTHALMIC, OTIC and NASAL. The default results in it not being changed to a valid route, which results in an invalid order or a wrong order because it was changed to the wrong route later on by someone that did not enter it. It is safer for the patient have it left blank so that the person entering the home med will be required to enter the correct route when the med is entered in the system.
This should also be applied to the units field for things such as insulin. When they go to enter insulin as a home medication, the unit field defaults to EA. Why on earth would it pull each as the default dose unit when insulin is measured and ordered in units? This causes errors when the provider orders the home med and the nurse leaves the default unit of EA. Insulin is a high risk medication!
We need the ability to set default routes on home meds or make it blank so the user will need to select a route.
