Users are warned when they attempt to create a record for a new patient (or look up a patient) whose first and last names are the same as another patient, or attempt to look up a patient and the search returns multiple patients with the same or similar names. Also providers toggling back and forth in patient charts to clear identify which chart they are in.
This is a SAFER guideline, plus it would be a great enhancement. There are so many duplicate records created that we have to merge. (In Patient Connect, I have requested an appointment as a test patient with the same DOB and First Name and a different last name. When searching for matches, none appeared and it wanted me to create a new profile. The parameters may be a little too much.)
