Joint Commission requires specific pain scale ratings with each pain medication for mild, moderate, and severe pain med administrations on a 0-10 scale and adding the ability to document numerical pain scales on the Web Client eMAR will assist nursing to not miss this documentation. In addition, Joint Commission requires POSS assessments prior to and after narcotic pain med administrations and adding this to the eMAR will assist nursing in documenting this with each pain med administration so this does not get missed.
Pain scale rating drop down needs to be separate from PRN reason drop down. We should be able to assign a pain scale drop down by item/medication and not have it applied to the entire formulary. This is also our issue with PRN reason as we need the ability to generate a specific list of drop down reasons that apply to that specific medication. There should not be PRN reasons that don't apply to a specific med- for example: Oxycodone should not have a PRN reason in the drop down for Nausea/vomiting. Evident missed the mark when they programmed the PRN reason field.
It would be nice to allow for possibly 2 drop down boxes in the "Assessment" field when following up on pain meds. One box that allows for the med effective, not effective, MD called, etc. capability and a separate drop down box for pasero opioid sedation scale selections for the post opioid administration requirement. Thank you.
