Future Orders - reflex from eForms

Good afternoon. Reference situation 10291661.

eForms do not have the ability to reflex future orders.

NEED:

We would like to have the ability to reflex future orders from an eForm.

USE CASE:

We have an eForm we want to use for in-house referrals to surgery. A part of the form is used reflex to trigger an order to department 063. We need this order to be placed as a future order. We currently place future orders for these referrals in Order Entry. We use the Unreleased Future Orders Report to track these orders. We even built a custom dashboard report for this. Works well.

BENEFITS:

Documentation: Use an eForm to document any special needs for the case. Parts, supplies needed, etc. The eForm documentation becomes a permanent part of the electronic medical record.

Workflows: Generate the order when you exit the eForm rather than having to exit the form, access order entry, place the orders, and sign them.

Audit/Accountability/Control: Can use one audit tool to consistently monitor the orders.

BURDENS:

You are forced to navigate to different parts of the electronic chart to complete a simple process.

If you use a paper form, it has to be scanned. This increases the amount of time it takes to get information into the system, different image titles and alternate names are inconsistent and create confusion.

You are not able to use a unified process to get the information into the system promptly, accurately, and in a consistent manner so that the information can be reviewed by all parties that require it.

If you have to use ‘normal’ orders and future orders, you are required to use two different audit reports. You have to use the Unreleased Future Orders Report and the Outstanding Orders Report (OOR) for the receiving department. The OOR is a dated cobol report that needs to be retired anyway.

Thank you.
