ORDER REASON FOR TODAY / NOW ORDERS IN CLINICS

In the ER Trubridge CPOE recognizes that patients are a specific ER stay type and subsequently orders entered from the department option automatically cross to the Pending Orders window with a frequency of 1X STAT. A similar functionality would be useful when patients are registered as a CLINIC stay type. We have 15 clinics and often providers want to get labs or radiology exams during the patient visit. Currently they need to use regular CPOE and enter NOW orders to get results the same day. The problem with that is providers aren't required to enter an Order Reason when they use normal CPOE.

It isn't feasible to add an OE question to every ancillary item requiring an order reason when in regular CPOE and doing that would lead to providers entering an order reason twice when using future orders.

If the ER can be configured to recognize the stay type, then using a similar logic for clinics should be possible. If it's a clinic account then an order reason should be required even if the provider is using regular CPOE to enter orders for the current visit.
