The system allows for temporary registration accounts and held CPOE but not entered by nursing via written/verbal/phone/protocol orders. Now you have the providers able to enter all types of CPOE entered orders on a temporary registration account which is great for orders entered by the actual provider, many of ours come over via fax and have to be hand entered by the nursing staff, a week or so prior to the case start. The nurses cannot transcribe the orders and have them held for the day of case which for offsite providers is a high need. If the nurses enter them on the profile we have to fully register the account and then change the date of service on the day of the case, then the pharmacy and ancillary services receive the order and if they don't pay attention either prepare the medication or head over to same day surgery to carry out the order and the patient is not there. This wastes time on the staff and often results in a wasted medication. Current option is to wait until day of service and manually enter them in, which defeats the purpose of having orders early.
