Allergy verification should be a hard stop like height and weight. Also, we need the option to verify allergies every shift.
Require drug allergy entry exists already. You can go to Tables-->Clinical-->Control Information (under the Pharmacy Control header)-->Clinical-->Require Drug Allergy Entry checkbox. Checkmark (yes) means drug allergies must be entered prior to a medication order being processed. No (blank or unchecked) allows medication orders to be processed without allergies being entered.
Even with this check mark in the path below, the prompt that comes up can be bypassed by selecting no and entering the order anyway. While I agree this should be a prompt for the provider to enter the allergy prior to entering a medication order and by policy they should not bypass the prompt, we know that people in a hurry or just out of laziness could bypass this prompt and order a med that a patient is allergic to. The height and weight is a hard stop, it will not let you bypass entering height and weight before ordering a medication. I would think an allergy to a medication is a high enough risk that you could make allergy verification a hard stop also. Why have a patient suffer due to a lazy or hurried provider?
